OCCUPY WALL STREET PROTEST
BEURSPLEIN SQUARE, AMSTERDAM
From Portland to St. Louis, the Occupy protests have been gaining momentum and continue to be front-page news. Hundreds of people gathered around the Beursplein Square, where Amsterdam's stock exchange is located, in an attempt to call banks to account and fight the equal distribution.
I chose the main image as it is powerful; it is instantly known it has involvement in the wall street protests, and the colours created from the film I was using, similar to the photo on the left. I loved the atmosphere of the area, and think I captured it well in the photo on the right, with a man from New York giving a speech in the background, whilst the men discuss and the passerby women reading the leaflets.

EARLY MORNING COFFEE
DAM SQUARE, AMSTERDAM
I noticed this man sitting next to me whilst having breakfast on an early sunday morning. I thought he would make a beautiful photo, I loved the way he was posed so naturally, and was glad he didn't notice me, until after, when he smiled. On the left is the original unedited photograph, however I didn't initially like the colours, as I cross processed my expired film. On the right is my black and white edited version, and now I just love seeing the contrast of the two when put side by side. |
